Deans reflects on maiden loss

Deans reflects on maiden loss

Exiting Eden: A first taste of defeat for Deans and his troops

Australia coach Robbie Deans rued the collapse of his side's line-out after his honeymoon came to a sudden and emphatic end in Auckland on Saturday.

New Zealand avenged last week's loss to the Wallabies with a well-taken 39-10 victory at Eden Park - a result that was build on forward domination.

Tony Woodcock and Ma'a Nonu each crossed twice as the hosts outscored their visitors by four tries to one with the rest of points coming from the boot of Dan Carter.

The stats reflect the fact that the visitors saw little of the ball and spent too much of the match in their own half, with New Zealand dominating both the scrums and line-outs.

Australia's next game is against South Africa in Durban on August 23 and Deans said he will use the intervening period to iron out the creases.

"It was a pretty good performance from the All Blacks," said Deans.

"They built pressure and they profited from that and didn't allow us to build pressure and they grew in confidence.

"[The line-out performance] was not one we'll reflect on with a lot of pride, and that reflected the way the game went.

"We came up a distant second here and we have some downtime before we go to Africa, and look forward to that opportunity."
